To Catch a Star

On her bed she sits, criss-cross applesauce,  hands cupped like an upside-down umbrella, waiting.

Her bare feet brush the wood floor as she rises.

Across the overwhelming darkness of the room she sees a light getting steadily brighter outside her window.

She braves the dark, to push open the window and clamber through it.

Her feet greet the wet dewy grass with a shiver, and only a second later, her feet are racing towards the falling star, her hands are outstretched.

She catches it.

"ouch!"

The star is blazing hot from the fall. It is gold and has sharp corners, but it is no bigger then both of the girl's hands cupped together.

with a push, the star flies back up to the sky.

When it reaches its new home, it winks at the girl as if to say, thank you.

When the girl wakes the next morning she is in the grass, and she has a star imprint on her palms.
